KCOM Academy programme poster with the headline result: 4.97 average trainer rating out of 5, from 78 participant responses

Why participants remember the trainer: a 4.97 average across 78 evaluations

October 27, 2026•3 min read

When a programme scores well, the instinct is to credit the content. Our evaluations suggest that participants remember something else first: the person at the front of the room. Across three Sarawak sessions led by Busky Baskaran and Davidson Abishegam, with Rozana Halpin also supporting the August session, 76 of 78 participants gave the trainer 5 out of 5.

The numbers

  • 78 evaluation responses from three sessions held in July and August 2026.

  • Average trainer rating of 4.97 out of 5. 76 of 78 participants (97%) gave 5 out of 5.

  • Overall programme rating of 4.87 out of 5, and 100% rated the programme excellent or very good.

What participants noticed

We read every comment about the trainers. Four themes repeated.

They made it safe to speak. Participants described being encouraged, not tested.

Every time we shared our thoughts, he would say, "Nice explanation" or "Great job." Those words motivated us to speak up and made the learning experience enjoyable.

Participant, port and logistics sector

They taught through stories people recognised. Relatable scenarios and real experience made the lessons easier to carry back to work.

A very good trainer, incorporates relatable scenarios and real life experiences into examples to make for a compelling lesson.

Participant, port and logistics sector

They stayed available. Questions did not end when the session did.

He is very kind and answered all my enquiries. I also asked him outside the training session and he was willing to answer my questions.

Participant, port and logistics sector

They built confidence. This was the most personal theme, and the one participants returned to most.

The trainer has greatly helped us build confidence, and through that confidence we are able to be ourselves and perform better.

Three lessons for anyone commissioning training

  • Ask who will be in the room. A framework can be copied. A trainer who knows the workplace and builds trust cannot.

  • Ask how participation is designed. Games, group discussion and a deliberate invitation for everyone to speak all appeared in the comments. None of them is accidental.

  • Ask what happens after. Availability outside the session was one of the most appreciated parts of the experience.

Why it matters in Sarawak

KCOM Academy has worked across Borneo for more than 20 years. The same trainers return, the same relationships deepen and participants ask to attend again. One wrote simply that they hoped to join another course with the same trainer. For a development budget, that kind of continuity is worth as much as the content.
