Self-rated knowledge of coaching rose from 2.33 to 4.00, a gain of 1.67 points (21 paired responses).
Before the programme, 13 of 21 participants rated their knowledge as fair or poor. Afterwards, 1 of 21 did.
Only 2 of 21 participants rated their knowledge as very good or excellent beforehand. Afterwards, 18 of 21 did.
Why the starting point matters
This cohort began with a modest self-rating of 2.33 out of 5. Coaching is often discussed in organisations before it is practised, and the self-ratings suggest that many participants arrived with limited experience of a structured coaching conversation. The movement from that starting point is the most important result here.
What participants valued
Participants valued the structure of the programme, particularly the GROW model, and the chance to practise coaching conversations in real time.
I believe the GROW model will help me to structure the coaching session in the future. This will lead to an effective performance evaluation session with team members and overall team effectiveness.
Programme participant
The framework, the essential elements you need to know when coaching.
Programme participant
Used real life situations and then demonstrated how to navigate and apply coaching techniques in those situations.
Programme participant
Participants also commented warmly on how the facilitators worked together, describing very good team dynamics and a session that was interactive and enjoyable.
Participant suggestions
Participants suggested using real situations rather than prepared scenarios when volunteering as a coachee, adding further mentoring content and allowing more time. We are grateful for this guidance.
